Text Giving Valentines Day

Sweethearts, secret admirers and... giving by SMS?! With only a few days to go until our annual celebration of Saint Valentine, we wanted to give you the low down on how other charities are using the tool of Text Giving to encourage donations from supporters (or admirers!) this Valentine's Day.

National AIDS Trust

This Valentine's Day, National AIDS Trust is running a 'Send a Rose' campaign – asking supporters to share the love by downloading a virtual red rose graphic and sending it on to loved ones, whilst showing support for HIV rights.

To aid their work fighting HIV stigma and discrimination and working towards ending new HIV transmissions by 2030, the charity is also asking for a donation to the campaign via their "REDROSE" keyword – a highly relevant keyword to the campaign's core theme this Valentine's.

National AIDS Trust also tweeted asking supporters to consider donating the cost of a bottle of wine via a £5, £10 or £20 donation by text – a simple and effective call to action, ahead of a day where wine is usually gifted by so many of us!

Paws2Rescue

Animal rescue and shelter charity Paws2Rescue are asking their supporters if they fancy a different kind of dinner date this Valentine's Day.

Their campaign's simple call to action is to text "PAWS 5" to make a £5 donation, in order to treat one of their rescue dogs from Romania a 'deluxe Valentine's Dogs Dinner'. Who could resist!?

Top tip: Did you know that Facebook posts with photos receive an average 37% increase in engagement over text-only posts? So including an image that reinforces the text call to action will strengthen your ask – and of course, including cute dog pictures (Paws2Rescue's beneficiaries) helps too!

Bolton Hospice

This year, Bolton Hospice are asking supporters to help them celebrate Valentine's Day in style by joining them for a live-streamed event.

From the comfort of their own sofa, supporters will be able to submit song dedications to pianist Guy Porteous before watching him perform them on Friday night via Facebook Live. To help share the message of love, the Hospice are asking supporters who are getting involved to make a donation in support of the event, by texting "LOVEBH" plus their desired amount.

Live-streamed or broadcast events are a really great way to fundraise whilst engaging with your supporters – especially in the times we're currently living in (see our National Theatre case study).

Due to its entirely flexible nature, Text Giving is a great tool to implement within campaigns centred around an Awareness Day or a date in the calendar such as Valentine's Day - even at the last minute! You can create your next Text Giving campaign through the Donr Dashboard.
