How can we collect Gift Aid information via Text Giving?

Alternatively, a free option will be available in the ‘Edit’ section of the Text Giving area of the Donr Dashboard, after you’ve created your campaign.

We understand that collecting Gift Aid information is a vital part of any fundraising campaign. Therefore, we’re more than happy to collect this information on behalf of your charity, before passing it on to you in a secure format to claim 100% of this from HMRC.

We provide two options for the collection of this data, as outlined below:

Option 1: You can send a second, customisable text message including the Gift Aid link whenever someone makes a donation. To activate this feature, switch ‘ON’ the secondary message Gift Aid function during the campaign creation process or via the ‘Customise’ section in the Text Giving area of your Donr Dashboard. We’ll then send this secondary text, at a cost of 3p per text. Please note, once a supporter has made a Gift Aid declaration to your organisation via our service, we will auto-apply that declaration to any future Text Giving donations they make to your organisation via our service for a period of 12 months – we won’t send this secondary message to them again, once they’ve made their declaration, to save your organisation the 3p per text.

To access the ‘Customise’ section, log into your Donr Dashboard, click ‘Text Giving,’ then the blue arrow button next to the Text Giving campaign from which you want to collect Gift Aid information. Select ‘Customise’ from the drop-down menu, then ‘Messaging and Add-ons.’ On this screen, you’ll be able to switch on the secondary Gift Aid message.

Option 2: Alternatively, you can opt to manually include the Gift Aid link in your free Thank You message. To do this, select the ‘Not now’ option when asked if you’d like to use the 3p per text option during your campaign creation process.

Then, after you’ve finished creating your campaign and returned to the main Donr Dashboard screen, click ‘Text Giving,’ then the blue arrow button next to the Text Giving campaign from which you want to collect Gift Aid information. Select ‘Customise’ from the drop-down menu and then ‘Messaging and Add-ons.’ To the right ride of the screen, you’ll see a text box headed ‘Moments later.’ This shows the auto-reply message that supporters receive when they successfully donate to your organisation via Text Giving. Click the blue ‘Edit’ button and follow the on-screen instructions to customise this message, including adding a link to a Gift Aid information declaration page.

Why do we have two options for Gift Aid information collection?

Enabling a second text message gives you more space to let your supporters know why Gift Aid is so important to you. Using the extra characters to talk to your community in your own voice is very powerful, and we believe it’s a feature that should be accessible to all charities, no matter how big or small.

For any Text Giving campaigns created prior to the roll-out date of our new campaign creation process (04th March 2020), charities wishing to collect Gift Aid information should follow the above instructions to access the ‘Customise’ section of the Text Giving campaign they wish to collect Gift Aid information from and follow the on-screen instructions to either switch on the 3p per text secondary message or collect Gift Aid information for free via the auto-reply message.
