Does Donr charge any fees?

Quick Answer

At Donr, the only mandatory charge we impose is a 5% fee (+VAT) from each donation made via our service, exclusive of mobile network operator fees or card processing fees on donations made via our donation safety net feature.

Want to know a little more?

Our 5% (+VAT) platform fee helps us to maintain our technology and provide the high-quality customer service we offer: we need to employ the best people, we need to be able to provide innovative updates and feature to the platform, and we need to ensure our team is always responsive for you and your supporters.

So how much of the donation gets to the charity?

The examples below should give you more of an idea of how this works in real life:

Fees on a £10 donation made to a charity via text payment:

– Donr platform fee of 5% = 50p
– 20% VAT charge on Donr platform fee = 10p (reclaimable from HMRC for VAT-registered organisations)
– Network fees do not apply to donations made to charities.
– Total amount of donation that Donr would pass on to the charity: £9.40
– Gift Aid amount that a charity can claim on a £10 donation: £2.50
– Total amount that a charity could receive from a £10 donation to their Donr page, via text payment, including Gift Aid and reclaimed VAT: £12.

N.B. if the donation qualifies for Gift Aid and the supporter makes a declaration via our service, Donr will pass on the information so that the charity can claim the funds from the UK Government. There is no extra charge for this service.

Fees on a £10 donation made to a charity via card payment using our safety net feature:

– Donr platform fee of 5% = 50p
– 20% VAT charge on Donr platform fee = 10p (reclaimable from HMRC for VAT-registered organisations)
– Card processing fee of 1.4% + 20p = 34p
– Total amount of donation that Donr would pass on to the charity: £9.16
– Gift Aid amount that a charity can claim on a £10 donation: £2.50
– Total amount that a charity could receive from a £10 card donation including Gift Aid and reclaimed VAT: £11.66

N.B. if the donation qualifies for Gift Aid and the supporter makes a declaration via our service, Donr will pass on the information so that the charity can claim the funds from the UK Government. There is no extra charge for this service.

Some other things to note…

– Donr does not collect Gift Aid on behalf of charities but will pass on information about donations qualifying for Gift Aid to charities so they can claim funds back from the UK government;
– Contributions collected by Donr on behalf of charities do not accrue interest;
– Donr’s platform and processing fees are non-negotiable and cannot be refunded;
– Donr does not currently offer supporters the option of covering platform/processing fees on behalf of the organisation they are donating to. Our market research suggested that supporters were often confused at what they saw as an ‘add-on’ to their donation. At Donr, we aim to be as transparent as possible and so, for now, have decided not to offer this option.
– Donr is a private, UK-registered company. Company number: 10402410.
